I (27M, 6', CW: 239, GW: 199) hope its okay if I make journal style posts, they are mostly for my benefit to stay motivated and see how far I have come. Yesterday I started on my weight loss journey and joined r/loseit! I started this journey after learning that I am technically obese and decided I cannot allow that.. I knew I was going to have a bit of a learning curve when starting but this community has already been great! One of the suggestions made was to download MyfitnessPal and start tracking calories... I had no idea I was eating 3, 500 - 4, 000 calories a day. Even on day one I was struggling to fight my hunger when I ate less than 3, 000. I have also decided to cut out beer completely which should drastically help the weight loss. Today my goal is to join a gym that preferably has an open sauna and that is cheap. I would also like it if that gym had a cycling class because I have a bad knee from a MCL tear years ago. Also, any one know how accurate those cycles are at telling you how many calories you have burned?

When I do have to walk to a supermarket or something similar, I make sure I go alone so I can take regular breaks. I have to sit down every 3-5 minutes or so depending on the terrain. I live in a very uphill city so sometimes a 30-second walk is enough to warrant a rest if the road is steep. Is this a case of I just have to suck it up and try to walk the pain off? I know I need to lose weight, I guess part of me just worries that I'm going to make the pain worse. I believe swimming is recommended for obese people as it's a low-impact exercise, but I'm super self conscious about my body so I wouldn't know how to muster the courage to get in a public swimming pool.
