I imagine most people know what they look like but let's admire one anyway: My favorite caterpillar is this pal, Citheronia phoronea: As for my favorite pupa, I don't know if I have a single one, but I think the neatest ones belong to moths in the family Urodidae. These little fellas live mostly in habitats with heavy rain, so it's thought the mesh cocoon is an adaptation to make sure rainwater flows through the cocoon and doesn't fill it and drown the pupa.
